The Community Players of Salisbury

President’s Message

Dear Friends and Family,

It is difficult to believe we have reached the third and final show of our season.  It seems only a few months ago that we were holding auditions for High School Musical.  I hope that you have enjoyed our varied season and we are looking forward to bringing you great shows in the future. We will be taking Wait Until Dark on the road collaborating with the Mar-Va Theater in Pocomoke, performing the thriller on July 12th and 13th.  In August, we will join forces again to present a musical review salute to the decades of great rock and roll music.  These extra productions will add to the coffers of our Building Fund.  For decades, we have urgently needed a performance space of our own.  Without the support of Wor-Wic Community College and the cooperation of the Wicomico County Board of Education in allowing us to rent Wi-Hi for our fall musical, we would not be able to continue.

I sincerely appreciate your support of Community Players of Salisbury demonstrated by your attendance at our production today.

Director’s Message

Dear Friends and Family,

It is 1967.  The Beatles have returned from their sojourn to India and have produced the Sgt. Pepper’s album.  Cell phones have not yet been invented and you needed a room to hold a computer rather than your lap.  The Graduate and Bonnie and Clyde are the big films of the year.  The rents in the Greenwich Village area of Manhattan are still low enough, that young artists can find inexpensive apartments (small ones) for rent.  Enter our newly wed couple, Sam and Susy Hendrix.  Sam is a young professional photographer just getting started by working weddings, birthday parties and taking head shots of would be actors.  He met his wife Susy when he rescued her from a traffic jam that she caused attempting to cross the street.  Susy had recently become blind.

You know the saying; “no good deed goes unpunished”?  Well, Sam is the living example.  He thought he was doing a stranger a favor by delivering a doll to a child.  What he didn’t know was that the doll was stuffed with heroin and he was transporting the doll across the border from Canada.  The stranger, Lisa, stopped by his apartment to retrieve the doll, but Sam could not locate it.  The con men now enter the scene.  They have to weave an elaborate tale to make Susy believe that the doll is the evidence needed to convict Sam of a murder.  An old pal of Sam’s (one of the con men) just happens along.  The con men know that if the doll is anywhere to be found, Susy will hand it over to the pretended friend, so that he can destroy the doll.  The con seems simple enough, except that Susy begins to put the pieces of the puzzle together.  Will she find the doll?  Will she hand it over?  Will she survive the next twenty-four hours or will she become another murder victim of Mr. Roat?...

In Memoriam

With a sad heart we acknowledge the death of Don Atkinson, a man who made us laugh and enjoy the plays he both acted in and directed. By day, Don was an accountant but, by night, when the stage lights came up, Don was 100% actor.

Don, who first appeared on our stage in The Nerd in 1990 and last appeared as Dr. Chumley in Harvey just a few months ago, passed away Sunday, June 3, 2007 after a brief illness.

Don was a loving, giving person. We share in the grief felt by his father and the rest of his family and friends.

We will miss you.
