Director’s Message

Welcome to our production of Neil Simon’s Rumors. This is my first production as director with Community Players; I am usually on the other side of the stage. I feel as if I have grown-up with Players and now it has all come full circle. In my first production with Community Players, I was cast in Cheaper by the Dozen and Rusty Mumford was the director. Well, now I am the director and Rusty the actor. It is funny how life works sometimes. I am extremely honored and excited about our production of Rumors. Neil Simon is a great American playwright and one of my favorite playwrights of all time. He truly captures the American spirit and dialogue. Rumors is a hilarious investigation into everyday life, relationships, and the communication process. How exactly does a rumor get started? How does that rumor affect our lives? If you knew a rumor about your best friend, what would you do with it? Well sit back and enjoy the show as my wonderful cast and crew give us some answers to these age-old questions. I hope I have piqued your interest because who doesn’t like a little drama and gossip in their lives.

Who’s Who in the Cast

Adam Adkins (Lenny Gantz) – Adam is a recent graduate from Salisbury University with a BA in Theatre. His past roles include Lloyd Dallas in Noises Off, Carl Hudlocke in The Marriage of Bette & Boo and Joseph Garcin in No Exit. He has also directed a successful run of Murder at the Howard Johnson's and has stage-managed for Salisbury University and New Horizons Theater. Although he is a Salisbury native, this is his first show with Community Players, and he's excited to be involved. He wishes to thank his friends and family for their never-ending support.

Sam Barnes (Glenn Cooper) – Sam returns to the Community Players for his second show; his first was Wait until Dark. Also a member of the Ocean Pines Players, he has appeared in Romantic Comedy, Dearly Departed, and a few others. Sammy has also done extra work in various movies, most recently a pilot for HBO called The Washingtonienne and was a production assistant for Eric Walter's award winning short film Whistle.

Chris Bosies (Officer Welch) – Chris made his debut with the Community Players in 1994 when he appeared in Rodgers and Hammerstein's Cinderella. Since then he has appeared in numerous other Players productions including Guys & Dolls, My Fair Lady, Annie, and Bye Bye Birdie. He was last seen on the Players stage two years ago in Harvey. Chris has also performed at SU’s Bobbie Biron Theatre, The Dorchester Unity Players, The Eastern Shore Ballet, Radio Airwaves, The Ocean Pines Players and Parker Productions. He has also appeared in three independent films - Enchantment, The Lumberjack of All Trades, and Even Steven. Chris would like to thank his wife Bonnie, and his mother, Mildred for their love and support.

Erin McKenzie Dean (Cassie Cooper) – Erin is so excited about her debut acting performance as Cassie Cooper! Erin's curiosity with theater has grown increasingly over the past few years since she has played violin in the pit orchestras of several musical theater productions at local schools and with the Community Players. She is the Program Coordinator of ShoreCorps/PALS, the AmeriCorps program at Salisbury University, and is passionate about serving the community. Erin would like to thank her friend, Megan Centineo, for her help & constant encouragement and, her husband, Trevor, for his support during this somewhat "out of character" theatrical interlude!

Cindy Gore (Cookie Cusack) – Cindy Gore has been an active member of Players for almost four decades. Her favorite roles include Miss Hannigan in Annie, M'Lynn in Steel Magnolias, Mother Superior in Nunsense and Aunt Eller in Oklahoma!. She directed The Pleasure of His Company, Night of January 16th, Blithe Spirit, Little Women, The Mouse That Roared and Bell, Book and Candle. She has directed and performed for WorWic's dessert theatre and reprised her role as Mother Superior in their production of Nunsense, a fund raiser for Relay for Life. A former theatre arts teacher at Parkside and Snow Hill High Schools, Cindy also served two terms as President of Players. She is a nine -year breast cancer survivor and dedicates this performance to her friends at Women Supporting Women and Drs. Grasso and Anderson for getting her back on the boards.

Who’s Who in the Cast

Sherri Trader Hynes (Chris Gorman) – Sherri was practically raised in the Community Players workshop having been involved with the Community Players for nearly 40 years in virtually every capacity, from acting, singing, handling props, and stage manager. She has served on the Board of Directors and served as President on two different occasions. Sherri directed Charley’s Aunt last winter and was last seen in Anything Goes. Her roles include Irene Molloy in Hello Dolly, Maria in The Sound of Music, Nancy in Oliver!, as well as leading roles in The King and I, Blithe Spirit, You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown and You Can’t Take it With You for Community Players. In addition, she has had lead roles with Masque Dinner Theatre as Bloody Mary in South Pacific and Eliza Doolittle in My Fair Lady for Possum Point Players in Georgetown. Sherri has also directed Oklahoma!, Bye Bye Birdie, Annie, The Wizard of Oz and Godspell for the Community Players.

Colleen Jennings (Officer Pudney) – This is Coleen’s second show with players. She made her theatrical debut with us in Harvey. She was last seen as the maid in Harvey. This role is a departure from her job as a criminal defense attorney. She is the human servant to her two dogs and two cats, and her mother would like available men to know that she is single.

Jennifer Livingston (Claire Gantz) – After performing in several musical productions for The Community Players of Salisbury, including Hello Dolly!, The Wizard of Oz, Footloose, Sizzlin’ Summer Music Review, and Thoroughly Modern Millie, Jennifer is very excited to be performing in her first non-musical with Players. A 2001 graduate of Salisbury University, she has been seen in many SU productions including The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas, The Crucible, Lend Me A Tenor, and Crop Circles. Jennifer has shared her love of the theatre with others through her instruction at the Maryland Summer Center for the Arts, and her choreography of several local productions that include Footloose, Thoroughly Modern Millie and Peter Pan. Thanks to Mandy and the cast for another great theatrical experience. It has been a pleasure!

Rusty Mumford (Ken Gorman) – Rusty has been a member of Community Players for more than 20 years. During that time, he has held almost every office in the organization and has taken part in almost every show either on stage or back stage. He has been an usher, props coordinator, stage manager, producer, make-up coordinator, and set construction. He has directed numerous productions for Players, the most recent being Anything Goes. On stage, Rusty has appeared in many productions, including Harvey (Elwood P. Dowd), Social Security (David Kahn), Christmas Carol (Scrooge/Dickens), You’re A Good Man, Charlie Brown (Schroeder), Godspell (Company), Annie (Drake), The Sunshine Boys (Ben), You Can’t Take It With You (Paul), My Three Angels (Joseph), Fiddler on the Roof, Hello Dolly, The Wizard of Oz (Uncle Henry), and Footloose (Uncle Wes). He has also appeared on stage for Wor-Wic Community College and Somerset Players.

Rumors marks a full circle completed—in February 1993 Rusty directed Mandy in her first role (Anne in Cheaper by the Dozen) and now, as director for the first time she is directing him!

Kel Nagel (Ernie Cusack) – Kel has been in numerous Players productions since his debut in Guys and Dolls in 1996. He was stage manager of our last show, Thoroughly Modern Millie, making brief appearances on stage as a policeman and a party guest. Favorite roles include Blessington in Solid Gold Cadillac, the president in The Mouse That Roared and Carlino in last season's Wait until Dark. For Players he has directed You Can’t Take It with You and Harvey, and plans to direct our special production of Doubt this coming July.

Who’s Who Backstage

Amanda Welch-Hamill – (Director) – Mandy is a graduate of Catholic University with a Masters of Fine Arts in Acting. This is her first directing experience for Community Players. She has directed productions for Salisbury University, the Wicomico County Summer Enrichment Program and Snow Hill High School Summer Productions. At Catholic, she appeared in such roles as Miss Julie in Miss Julie, Lady Macbeth and Beatrice in the Shakespeare Project, and Nina in The Seagull. She debuted with Players as Anne in Cheaper by the Dozen. Over the past sixteen years, she has been in such Players’ shows as Laura in the Glass Menagerie, Corie in Barefoot in the Park, Gillian in Bell, Book, & Candle, Nurse Kelly in Harvey and most recently as Susie in Wait until Dark. Mandy would like to thank her cast, friends and family for all of their love and support.

Gillian Babb (Stage Manager) – Gillian is currently a sophomore at Salisbury University majoring in Communications and minoring in Theatre. She has been the stage manager for Rimers of Eldrich, The Laramie Project, and Much Ado about Nothing. Gillian has also been part of the technical crew for numerous others. She is excited to be joining community theatre with Rumors, and hopes that it will be the start of a long association.

David Allen (Set and Sound) – David started in Players in the fall of 1993 helping with lights in Oklahoma! Since then he has worked in every show Players has produced, once or twice on stage but usually behind the scenes. He has been president and is now a board member again. He thanks his wife, Brenda, and their kids for putting up with his crazy hours.

Lynne Bratten (Costumes) – Lynne has been helping Players for longer than she cares to remember. She enjoys working behind the scenes as costumer.

Gary Finley(Lighting) – Gary has been lighting shows for Wor-Wic Community College for the past eight or nine years, including most of their annual Dessert Theatre and Variety Show productions. This exposure, along with encouragement from friends and family, developed into a desire to work with Community Players. Gary has lighted Harvey, Laughing Stock, Bell, Book & Candle, An Inspector Calls, and You Can’t Take It with You.

Joanne Little (Props) – Joanne, a retired county teacher, is best known for her work on the piano, but she has been in charge of props for many of our straight shows.
