"TheWizard of Oz" Program

The Community Players of Salisbury

President’s Message

Good evening and welcome to the first production of Community Players’ 65th season.  Sherri Trader-Hynes and her cast and crew invite you down the yellow brick road tonight as we follow Dorothy and her friends on their search for the great Wizard of OZ.  We hope that this perennial favorite will delight you this evening!

This season marks a first for Community Players.  We will be collaborating with the Wicomico Youth and Civic Center to present a dinner theater in December.  Joe Benamati will be directing A Christmas Carol on December 20, 21 and 22, 2002.  This is not a part of our regular season and tickets will go on sale at the Civic Center in the very near future.  Please be sure to join us for this Christmas favorite---possibly making it a Christmas party for your friends or co-workers!

Now, we’re off to see The Wizard, The Wonderful Wizard of OZ!

DIRECTOR’S MESSAGE

It gives me great pleasure to welcome you to Community Players of Salisbury’s fall production of the family classic, The Wizard of OZ.  We are very pleased to bring you this wonderful, charming, and heart-warming story of the young girl named Dorothy and her adventures in the land of OZ.  In my research for this production, I discovered that The Wizard of OZ is staged an average of twenty-five times a year worldwide by various theatre groups, making it one of the most popular productions of all time.  This has been a particularly challenging experience for me working with such a large and talented cast who range in age from 5 to 70+ years old.  It is my hope that we have given these children (and adults) an opportunity to experience the theatre first hand, learn new concepts and ideas, and have some fun all at the same time.  I’d like to offer a huge thank you to everyone who assisted me in this endeavor; I could never have done it without the encouragement and constant support of those very special people.  And perhaps the most positive aspect of this production is the presence of families working, learning, and “playing” together.  If there is one thing I have learned over the years, it is that the friends you make in the theatre are more than friends, they are family.  So welcome to our family and we hope you will continue to be a part of our family for many years to come.
